Green Road Run in Scotland - Garelochhead

There is undoubtedly an interest in Green Laning, not surprising really when you consider the vehicles we covet and cherish. This forum is here for discussion of routes, contemporary issues and the social side of things. Anyone not playing nice will have their tyres let down.

Green Road Run in Scotland - Garelochhead

Postby genem » Mon Dec 10, 2012 12:05 am

OK, I'm not sure any of the SLROC vehicles out driving today have an MOD pedigree ...but we were on the MOD Training Area at Garelochhead. This track is called "The Bosnian Road", built to train drivers heading out to the Balkans. Todays conditions were just right, patches of snow, areas of sheet ice, nice steep drops.... Not quite Route CLOG but close enough !

Wading kit/winterised 110 12/24 Ex 59 Independent Marine Commando Royal Engineers and yes it gets used greenlaning as well as at shows. Though not as often as I'd like.

Mike - Sorry for the slow response, didn't spot your post. Yep. I organise "Green Road Runs" for Scottish Land Rover Owners Club. The score is that there are almost ZERO unpaved public right of ways in Scotland. Our trips are all done by negotiation and £££ with the landowners - usually big estates, MoD or Forestry. We've got some great routes and stunning scenery ....but that "right to roam", however restricted, you have down in Englandshire just does not exist for us. The only decent scottish vehicular RoW I know ( Corriearrack Pass) has been blocked for years by the landowner at the northern end, tacitly supported by Grampian Council.

Next SLROC GRR is 3rd March - 20 miles + and some muddy stuff in Achray Forest - "The Trossachs". An hour north of Glasgow or Edinburgh for any one wanting to come ( You'll need an ALRC affiliated club membeship ) .
